What is bromine measured for?

Bromine (Br) is used as an alternative to chlorine to disinfect water, especially in swimming pools, whirlpools and cooling water systems. Unlike chlorine, bromine remains effective even at higher temperatures and pH values, which is why it is particularly preferred in hot water applications.

Controlling the bromine concentration is important to ensure sufficient disinfection and at the same time avoid overdosing. Typical target values are between 2 and 4 mg/l in swimming pools and whirlpools.

Bromine is used in cooling water systems to prevent microbial growth and biofilm formation. Regular monitoring protects the systems from corrosion and deposits.

How does the test set work?

The CALDUR® Bromine Test Set – Colorimetric is based on the DPD method (diethyl-p-phenylenediamine). After adding two reagents to the water sample, a pink to violet coloration develops within 1 minute, the intensity of which is proportional to the bromine concentration.

The measured value is determined by direct color comparison with a 6-stage color chart supplied.
