What is the pH value measured for in the alkaline range?

The pH value is one of the most important parameters in water analysis. In many industrial applications the relevant pH range is in the alkaline range (pH 7-14), for example when monitoring boiler water, cooling water, cleaning solutions and alkaline process solutions.

The MN pH test strips 7-14 offer a higher resolution in the alkaline range than universal test strips (0-14). With a graduation of 0.5 pH units, they allow a more precise determination in the range from pH 7 to 14.

Typical applications: boiler water monitoring (target pH often 10-12), control of alkaline cleaning solutions, monitoring of cooling water systems and concrete wastewater.

How do the test strips work?

The test strips are impregnated with special pH indicator dyes optimised for the alkaline range. The strip is dipped into the sample and the resulting colour is compared with the printed colour scale.

Reading: The colour scale is divided into steps of 0.5 pH units (7.0 / 7.5 / 8.0 / … / 14.0). This allows a more precise determination than universal test strips.

Benefits of the MN test strips

  • Higher resolution: 0.5 pH steps

More precise measurement than universal test strips (0-14)

  • Optimised for the alkaline range pH 7-14

Ideal for boiler water, cooling water and alkaline processes

  • Quick measurement in about 1 minute

Immediate results without reagents or instruments

  • 100 determinations per tin

    Particularly economical for frequent checks

  • No reagents required

No mixing, no drops, no waste

Application areas

Pond / lake
Ground / well water
Drinking / tap water
Aquaristics
Pool / swimming pool
Industrial treatment
Boiler water
Food processing
Wastewater treatment

Carrying out the measurement:

  1. Remove a test strip from the tin
  2. Dip the strip into the sample for about 1 second
  3. Wait approx. 1 minute until the colour is stable
  4. Compare the colour with the printed scale
  5. Read off the pH value (graduation 0.5 pH)

Tip for best results

For optimal colour development, dip the strip only briefly and do not move it. For samples in the transition range (approx. pH 7), an additional universal test strip (0-14) is recommended for confirmation.

Important notes

  • Close the tin again immediately after removal – avoid moisture
  • Do not touch the indicator zone of the test strips with your fingers
  • Store in a dry, cool place
  • Do not use beyond the expiry date

Measuring range

Property Value
Measuring range pH 7 – 14
Graduation 0.5 pH units
Reading Colour comparison with printed scale
Finer graduation:
With 0.5 pH steps, these test strips offer twice the resolution of the universal test strips (0-14). Ideal for applications where the pH value in the alkaline range must be determined precisely.

Number of possible determinations

Each tin contains 100 test strips for 100 measurements.

Measuring accuracy

Accuracy: ± 0.5 pH units
Note: For more precise measurements we recommend a digital pH tester.
