CALDUR® Copper Test Set – Colorimetric

What is copper measured for?

Copper (Cu) is an essential trace element, but can be harmful to health in high concentrations. The limit value for drinking water is 2 mg/l (Drinking Water Ordinance). Copper mainly enters drinking water through copper pipes, especially in soft, acidic water with a low pH value.

Elevated copper concentrations can lead to a greenish discoloration of the water, cause a metallic taste and trigger gastrointestinal complaints in sensitive people. In aquariums, even small amounts of copper are toxic to fish and invertebrates.

Regular monitoring of the copper content is therefore particularly important for new copper installations, in aquariums, swimming pools and in industrial water treatment.

How does the test set work?

The CALDUR® Copper Test Set – Colorimetric works according to the cuprizone method. Cuprizone forms a blue to violet color complex with copper(II) ions, the intensity of which is proportional to the copper concentration.

After the addition of two reagents and a reaction time of 5 minutes, the measured value is determined by direct color comparison with a 6-stage color chart.
