Radar sensor RMS 61
The RMS 61 radar sensor is a 61 GHz Doppler radar in a rugged M30 housing with an M30x1.5 external thread and IP67 protection. It reliably and precisely detects people and moving objects – regardless of lighting conditions, dust or dirt. The detection range is adjustable between 0.5 m and 5.0 m. A blue power LED indicates operation, and two red status LEDs signal the output state. The rugged push-pull output drives loads up to 350 mA directly, making it ideal for PLC, control and automation applications.
Use on escalators and moving walks
Radar sensors from RLS Wacon detect approaching passengers on escalators and moving walks and act as direction-dependent motion detectors for the automatic release (standby recovery) of the unit. The escalator starts on approach and switches to standby during traffic pauses – saving energy and wear. Thanks to modern radar technology, the RMS 61 works direction-dependently and is insensitive to ambient influences.
Product variants
The RMS 61 is available for approaching, departing or bidirectional movement – with an adjustable threshold (0.5 – 5.0 m) or a fixed threshold (2.5 – 2.7 m). Other housing shapes, connection cable lengths, customer-specific connectors or outputs can be integrated on request.

Mounting
The RMS 61 is fastened via its M30×1.5 external thread and, thanks to its rugged housing, can also be mounted concealed. The measuring direction is selectable; the sensor works direction-dependently and is insensitive to lateral movements.
Connection
Connection is made via a 3-wire cable (3×0.14 mm²) for supply voltage, ground (GND) and switching output. The push-pull output drives loads up to 350 mA directly.
Commissioning and adjustment
The detection range is set at the threshold potentiometer (TH) between 0.5 m and 5.0 m. The blue power LED indicates operation, and two red status LEDs (front and rear) show the output state.
- Mount the sensor via the M30 thread at the intended position and align the measuring direction.
- Connect the wires to the supply voltage and control system according to the pin assignment.
- Apply voltage – the blue power LED lights up.
- Set the detection range at the threshold potentiometer to suit the application and check using the red status LED.
