Transmitter/receiver module for D version

Transmitter and receiver modules form the individual light barriers of the light curtain in the D version (escalators from Kone and Otis). The transmitter module emits an infrared light beam, which the opposite receiver module evaluates – if a person interrupts the beam, the system detects the occupancy.

Up to 99 modules per escalator side can be connected via cables to form chains; individual modules can be replaced quickly with minimal tools. Use the module type to select transmitter or receiver and the version to select standard or rev. In the rev. version, the housing is marked to show whether it is a transmitter or a receiver.

Features

  • automatic restart system according to EN 115:2008
  • safety light grid Cat. 4 / SIL 3, TÜV type-examined
  • up to 99 light barriers per escalator side (approx. 30 m)
  • self-monitoring and self-configuring
  • independent of ambient light, no wearing parts
  • protection class IP67, temperature range −20 … +65 °C
  • Original RUDOLPH design

Field of use

Automatic restart systems (WBS) are used on escalators and moving walks in public and commercial passenger transport and automatically release the unit again after an emergency stop as soon as nobody is on it any more. The D version is designed for escalators made by Kone and Otis.

Operating principle

The light curtain uses up to 99 light barriers to create a vertical safety light grid across the escalator. Each light barrier consists of a transmitter module and a receiver module; if a person interrupts a light beam, the TLCU central unit detects the occupancy and withholds the release. The system works independently of ambient light and is self-monitoring and self-configuring according to EN 115:2008 (Cat. 4 / SIL 3).

Installation

  1. Fix the module with a stainless steel holder on the intended side of the escalator (transmitter and receiver sides opposite each other).
  2. Integrate the module into the transmitter or receiver chain via cable.
  3. Check the alignment with the opposite module.

Maintenance & cleaning

  • Regularly inspect the modules and optical surfaces visually.
  • Clean dirty optics with a soft, lint-free cloth – no aggressive cleaning agents.
  • Check the status display of the central unit; faults are displayed and output.
  • No wearing parts – very low maintenance effort; defective modules can be replaced individually with minimal tools.

Important notes

  • Align transmitter and receiver exactly opposite each other.
  • One stainless steel holder is required per module.
  • Only use the version that matches the escalator type.
  • Install only when de-energised.
