What is MEKO measured for?

MEKO (methyl ethyl ketoxime) is an oxygen binding agent that is used as an alternative to DEHA and sodium sulphite in steam boiler systems. It has the advantage that it remains stable even at high temperatures and does not form any decomposition products that contaminate the steam.

Precise dosing of MEKO is crucial for optimum corrosion protection. The photometric measurement enables an objective and precise determination of the concentration.

MEKO is preferably used in high-pressure steam boilers and in systems where steam cleanliness is particularly important.

How does the test set work?

The CALDUR® MEKO Test Set – Photometric is based on the ferrozine method. The reagents form a color complex with MEKO, the concentration of which is determined photometrically using the WINLAB Data Line photometer.

Advantages of the CALDUR® test set

  • Measuring range 0.5 – 10 mg/l MEKO

    Covers the practical dosing range

  • 100 provisions per set

    Economical for regular checks

  • High precision due to photometric evaluation

Objective measurement results for optimum dosing

  • Adapted to WINLAB Data Line photometer

    Optimum compatibility

Areas of application

Pond / lake
Groundwater / well water
Drinking / tap water
Aquaristics
Pool / Swimming pool
Industrial processing
Boiler water
Food preparation
Waste water treatment

Carrying out the measurement:

  1. Take a boiler water sample and allow to cool to room temperature
  2. Fill the water sample into the test tube up to the mark
  3. Add reagent A and mix
  4. Add reagent B and mix
  5. Wait for 8 minutes reaction time
  6. Perform photometric measurement with WINLAB Data Line Photometer

Tip for best results

Boiler water samples must be cooled to room temperature before measurement. Hot samples falsify the result.
The sample should be measured as fresh as possible, as MEKO can oxidize in the air.

Important notes

  • Allow sample to cool to room temperature before measuring
  • Adhere exactly to the response time of 8 minutes
  • Do not confuse MEKO and DEHA – different test sets required
  • For values above 10 mg/l: dilute sample 1:1, measured value × 2
  • Requires WINLAB Data Line photometer (Art. 37-000100)

Measuring range

Property Value
Measuring range 0.5 – 10 mg/l MEKO
Resolution 0.1 mg/l

Number of possible destinations

With one CALDUR® Test Set MEKO Photometric you can carry out 100 measurements.
This refers to the quantity of reagents contained.

Recommended dosing ranges

Application Recommended MEKO content
Low pressure boiler (< 20 bar) 1 – 3 mg/l MEKO
Medium pressure boiler (20-60 bar) 0.5 – 2 mg/l MEKO
High pressure boiler (> 60 bar) 0.5 – 1 mg/l MEKO
Note:
The optimum dosage depends on the type of system, operating pressure and oxygen content. Consult the water chemist or the dosing system documentation for system-specific target values.
