What is peroxide measured for?

Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is used in a variety of ways in water treatment: for disinfection, oxidation of organic impurities and as a dechlorination agent. The correct dosage is crucial – too little H₂O₂₂ is ineffective, too much can attack materials and increase costs.

Hydrogen peroxide is used as a chlorine-free disinfection alternative in swimming pools and whirlpools. Typical target values are 30-50 mg/l. Photometric measurement enables precise dosage control.

In industrial water treatment, H₂O₂ is used to remove chlorine, sulphide and other undesirable substances. Regular monitoring ensures that the dosage is optimal.

How does the test set work?

The CALDUR® Peroxide Test Set – Photometric is based on the titanyl sulphate method. After adding a reagent to the water sample, a yellow color complex is formed within 5 minutes, the concentration of which is precisely determined with the WINLAB Data Line photometer.

Advantages of the CALDUR® test set

  • Wide measuring range 1.0 – 100 mg/l H₂O₂

Covers the entire practical dosing range

  • 150 provisions per set

    Economical for regular checks

  • High precision due to photometric evaluation

Objective, reproducible measurement results with the WINLAB Data Line

  • Specific titanyl sulphate method

Selective for hydrogen peroxide, low interference

Areas of application

Pond / lake
Groundwater / well water
Drinking / tap water
Aquaristics
Pool / Swimming pool
Industrial processing
Boiler water
Food preparation
Waste water treatment

Carrying out the measurement:

  1. Fill the round cuvette with sample up to the 10 ml mark
  2. Add 5 drops of reagent A and mix
  3. Wait for 5 minutes reaction time
  4. Insert the cuvette into the WINLAB Data Line photometer
  5. Start measurement – result is displayed directly in mg/l H₂O₂

Tip for best results

The sample should be clear and free of suspended solids. Sample temperature between 15 and 25°C ensures optimum results. If the peroxide concentration is high, dilute the sample.

Important notes

  • Adhere exactly to the response time of 5 minutes
  • Avoid direct sunlight during the measurement
  • Wipe the cuvette with a lint-free cloth before measuring
  • Thoroughly rinse the test tube with the sample before each measurement
  • H₂O₂ decomposes when exposed to light and heat – measure sample promptly
  • Requires WINLAB Data Line photometer (Art. 37-000100)

Measuring range

Property Value
Measuring range 1.0 to 100 mg/l H₂O₂
Dissolution 0.5 mg/l
Method Titanyl sulfate method, photometric evaluation
Advantage of photometric measurement:
In contrast to the colorimetric method (color chart), the photometer provides exact numerical values with a higher resolution. Intermediate values are calculated automatically – ideal for documentation and quality assurance.

Number of possible destinations

With one CALDUR® Test Set Peroxide Photometric you can carry out 150 measurements.
This refers to the quantity of reagents contained.

Measuring accuracy and reproducibility

Resolution: 0.5 mg/l
Reproducibility: Very good if the application instructions are followed
Interference: Other oxidizing agents such as peracetic acid can influence the result. If peracetic acid is present at the same time, the measured value is the sum of both peroxides.

What to do if measured values are out of range?

Measured value > 100 mg/l

Verduction Execution Calculation of the measured value
1:1 5 ml sample + 5 ml peroxide-free water Measured value × 2
1:9 1 ml sample + 9 ml peroxide-free water Measured value × 10

Measured value < 1.0 mg/l

Measured value is below the detection limit. For more sensitive measurements, please contact our technical support.
