What is the pH value measured for?

The pH value is one of the most important parameters in water analysis and indicates how acidic or alkaline a solution is. The scale ranges from 0 (strongly acidic) through 7 (neutral) to 14 (strongly alkaline).

The pH value influences almost all chemical and biological processes in water: corrosion behaviour, the effectiveness of disinfectants, the solubility of metals and the living conditions for organisms. The German Drinking Water Ordinance prescribes a pH range of 6.5 to 9.5.

The MN pH test strips 0-14 cover the entire pH range and are suitable for a quick orientation measurement in all areas of application – from swimming pool monitoring and wastewater control to laboratory work.

How do the test strips work?

The test strips are impregnated with special pH indicator dyes that change colour on contact with the solution according to the pH value. The strip is simply dipped into the sample and the resulting colour is compared with the printed colour scale.

Reading: The colour scale is divided into steps of 1 pH unit (0, 1, 2, … 14). Intermediate values can be estimated by colour comparison.

Benefits of the MN test strips

  • Entire pH range 0-14

    Universally applicable for all applications

  • Quick measurement in about 1 minute

Immediate results without reagents or instruments

  • 100 determinations per tin

    Particularly economical for frequent checks

  • Simplest handling

Dip, compare, read – no prior knowledge required

  • No reagents required

No mixing, no drops, no waste

Application areas

Pond / lake
Ground / well water
Drinking / tap water
Aquaristics
Pool / swimming pool
Industrial treatment
Boiler water
Food processing
Wastewater treatment

Carrying out the measurement:

  1. Remove a test strip from the tin
  2. Dip the strip into the sample for about 1 second
  3. Wait approx. 1 minute until the colour is stable
  4. Compare the colour with the printed scale
  5. Read off the pH value

Tip for best results

Do not dip the strip into the solution for too long, otherwise the indicator dye may dissolve. With strongly coloured solutions, reading can be more difficult.

Important notes

  • Close the tin again immediately after removal – avoid moisture
  • Do not touch the indicator zone of the test strips with your fingers
  • Store in a dry, cool place
  • Do not use beyond the expiry date

Measuring range

Property Value
Measuring range pH 0 – 14
Graduation 1 pH unit
Reading Colour comparison with printed scale
Intermediate values:
Intermediate values can be estimated optically between the colour steps (e.g. pH 6.5 between pH 6 and pH 7).

Number of possible determinations

Each tin contains 100 test strips for 100 measurements.

Measuring accuracy

Accuracy: ± 1 pH unit
Note: For more precise measurements we recommend the MN pH test sets (colorimetric) or a digital pH tester.
