Sample cooler AC 400 – for the safe sampling of hot water samples

What is the sample cooler for?

The sample cooler type AC 400 is used for the manual sampling of water samples that must be cooled to normal ambient temperature for analytical purposes. This allows hot samples – e.g. from boiler or heating water – to be taken safely and analysed without distortion.

Construction and material

The body and cooling coil are made of stainless steel 1.4571, the surface is electropolished. The sample passes through the cooling coil and is brought to ambient temperature by the cooling water. No copper pipe may be used for the sample line, as this would distort the water analysis.

With or without valves

The AC 400 is available in two versions: “without valves” (cooler only) and “with valves” – including hot-water valve HWV 400 and cold-water valve KWV 400. Select the appropriate version above.

Benefits at a glance

  • Safe sampling of hot water samples for analysis
  • Body and cooling coil made of stainless steel 1.4571, electropolished
  • Nominal pressure PN 16 bar (open outlets)
  • Available with or without matching valves
  • Compact design with simple 2-point mounting

Connection and setup

Before the sample water enters, a fine-control valve must be installed. The cooling-water inlet can be shut off with a spindle or ball valve. The sample-water and cooling-water outlets must not be fitted with shut-off valves; the cooling-water outlet must be led into an open funnel. The ratio of cooling water to sample water is set according to the desired sample temperature.

Taking a sample

  1. First open the cooling-water valve.
  2. Then slowly open the sample valve and take the sample.
  3. Adjust the quantity ratio to the desired sample temperature.

⚠️ Risk of scalding

When taking a sample, first open the cooling-water valve and only then slowly open the sample valve. Otherwise there is a risk of scalding from hot sample water.
